One person and a dog died Sunday in an apartment fire on Kohanza Street in Danbury. Firefighters used a ladder to reach the second floor and brought the victim out through a window, but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. A passing volunteer firefighter had tried to get inside before crews arrived, but heavy smoke blocked the way. Three firefighters suffered minor burns and were taken to the hospital. The fire’s cause is under investigation.
