Safety improvements are underway or planned along Route 7 in Danbury following fatal crashes, including July’s crash that killed off-duty Bridgeport Officer Cooper Whiteside and Brittany Islami. Connecticut transportation officials expect larger speed limit signs and speed reduction markings this month, along with refreshed pavement markings and vegetation clearing. Rumble strips are being designed, and treatments to improve tire grip on two curves are expected in 2027. Officials are also reviewing lighting needs.
